If you are wondering if you missed the window of opportunity to get your flu shot, the answer is no. Late is better than never, when it comes to protecting yourself against the flu. While it is true that the flu shot cannot guarantee you will not catch the flu, it can greatly reduce your chances of catching it. The CDC has already released information warning that this flu season will be difficult and that everyone who is well enough to be vaccinated should get a flu shot. While almost everyone can benefit from getting the flu shot, some classes of people are especially vulnerable to suffering complications associated with the flu. Some of the people in this vulnerable group include senior citizens and small children.
At Wellspire Medical Group, our goal is to promote and protect the health of individuals and families in our community. If you are looking to get a flu shot for yourself, someone you love, or your entire family, the dedicated doctors at Wellspire Medical Group can help. We treat patients of all ages and have family practitioners available for families who wish to get comprehensive care for everyone in their family from one doctor.
Is The Flu Shot Dangerous?
A myth surrounding the flu shot is that by receiving the vaccination you are putting yourself at a higher risk to catch the flu. This is however, just a myth. While the vaccine does contain the influenza virus, it has been killed or is in a weakened state before it is injected into you, eliminating the risk for infection. The flu vaccine has been considered safe for everyone with a health immune system. If you have a weakened immune system due to illness or disease, talk to your doctor before getting vaccinated.
When Is Flu Season?
We are currently in the fourth week since flu season has started. If you have not come into a Wellspire Medical Group location to receive your vaccination, you are at increased risk for getting sick with the flu. Even if you are a healthy young adult who is not at high risk for complications related to the flu, it should still be taken seriously. If you live with young children or senior citizens, be diligent and protect yourself from bringing the flu into your home.
Flu season will be around until May 2020, with the most severe months being between December and February. Do not wait until it is too late to get vaccinated for the flu this season, instead come into one of Wellspire’s locations in Northeast Houston today.
