in Family Practice

There is a lot of overlap between the training and education of a family practitioner and an internist. Both of these doctors can diagnose and treat several different conditions and diseases, however their expertise and approach to health care may be different. Regardless of which medical professional you believe is best for your specific health care needs, the team at Wellspire Medical Group is here for you. Our team of highly trained, board certified physicians offer comprehensive care in our state of the art facilities. We work within a network that includes family doctors, physicians of internal medicine, and many specialists including cardiologists, endocrinologists, urologists, dermatologists, and more. If you are looking for the best medical treatment in the Northeast Houston area, the team at Wellspire Medical Group is here for you.

What is an internist?

A doctor that specifically studies internal medicine is known as an internist. These medical professionals are specially trained to prevent, diagnose, and care for a wide range of health conditions for adult patients. After medical school, these professionals complete a 3-year residency program in adult diseases and often spend another 1-3 years studying a specific medical specialty including cardiology and urology.

The practicing internists at Wellspire Medical Group in Humble, work hard to help diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions and diseases in adult patients. These physicians are able to help patients manage multiple conditions at onces, as well as treat short-term problems that may have an interaction with their chronic illnesses.

What is a family practitioner?

Family doctors are very similar to internists, however they are trained to treat patients of all ages including children. Family doctors will also complete a 3-year residency, however this will be more focused on office-based health care instead of hospital-based health care. Additionally, family doctor’s residency will also include training in obstetrics.

In many cases, a family doctor will be able to work with and treat every member of a family from the youngest to the oldest. Many families find this to be an advantageous way to track hereditary issues and provide their physicians with an in-person understanding of their family history.
